This article covers how to set up a mutually exclusive group (MEG) for web experiments in Kameleoon.
For the theory behind mutually exclusive groups, including when Kameleoon assigns visitors to a group and the tradeoffs to weigh first, refer to Mutually exclusive groups. To set up a MEG for feature experiments instead, refer to Create a mutually exclusive group for feature experiments.

Set up a mutually exclusive group for web experiments

  1. Decide which campaigns should be mutually exclusive. For example, group all homepage layout changes together.
  2. Tag each campaign in the group using the naming convention "ME-GROUP-\{GROUP NAME}", such as ME-GROUP-A. Kameleoon treats the campaigns within each group as mutually exclusive based on this naming convention.
As a result, visitors see only one campaign from each mutually exclusive group. This setup avoids overlap and ensures more accurate results.
Adding or removing an ME-GROUP-{GROUP NAME} tag on a campaign that’s already running only changes future visitor allocation. Kameleoon delivers the updated grouping once a visitor’s browser fetches the updated engine.js, subject to the caching window described in Data collection and reporting, or immediately if you also tag the campaign LIVE-UPDATE. Removing the tag from a campaign that visitors are already assigned to breaks their sticky assignment within the group; see When Kameleoon assigns a visitor to a group. Tagging a campaign doesn’t clear or reset data already collected for it. The only way to remove previously collected results from the Results page is the explicit Reset data action.
