IAB Transparency and Consent Framework (TCF) is a common standardized framework designed to help all parties in the adtech industry (CMPs, publishers, vendors) ensure that they’re GDPR-compliant. IAB TCF v2.3 has a strong presence in the media industry, and some Kameleoon customers consider it a must-have. All major CMPs, such as Onetrust, Didomi, Usercentrics, provide IAB compliance out of the box. This guide walks you through how to set up an integration with IAB TCF v2.3.

Vendors (such as Kameleoon) are responsible for providing up-to-date information on the purposes for which they collect and process personal data, the features they rely on in pursuit of such purposes, and the requirements regarding accessing a user’s device. The IAB holds a list of registered third-party vendors, which is accessible automatically by all CMPs. On the IAB TCF page for Global Vendor registration, here are the parameters that correspond to the experiments and/or personalizations launched via Kameleoon.
The selected parameters have an automatic impact on Kameleoon. For example, if you turn off only the IAB purpose dedicated to personalization, it turns off Kameleoon Personalization.

Enable IAB TCF v2.3 on Kameleoon

Once you’ve activated IAB TCF v2.3 on your Kameleoon account, Kameleoon automatically reads the consent policy within IAB TCF v2.3 framework for both experimentation and personalization modules. To enable IAB TCF v2.3:
  1. Open the Kameleoon app.
  2. Click Admin > Integrations.
  3. Search for the IAB TCF 2.3 integration and click it.
  4. Click Install.
  5. Select the project on which you want to activate IAB TCF 2.3.
  6. Click Install.

By default, Kameleoon selects the option Choose IAB TCF as the default consent solution. As a result, Kameleoon selects IAB TCF by default in the Consent policy dropdown on the project’s Consent tab. You will see an ON toggle on the right of the tool’s line, and the number of projects where you configured the tool.

To access the consent management details:
  1. Click Admin > Projects.
  2. Click Edit on your project’s row, then click the Consent tab.

  1. In the For A/B tests and feature experiments, For personalizations, or For product recommendation section, click Edit. In each section, you can select the IAB TCF 2.3 consent option in the Consent policy dropdown.

  1. Click Save changes.
In the Consent tab, you can select IAB TCF 2.3 consent separately for A/B tests, personalizations, and product recommendation in their respective sections. You configure consent policy independently for each. Read this documentation to find out more about consent management.
